Winged: New Writing on Bees

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

Submit: excellent works of poetry, fiction, prose nonfiction, and mixed-genre work on the human relationship with honey bees. Broad interpretations encouraged. Previously-published work is fine, as long as the author holds the right to reprint.

Consider: the honey bee in history, the European honey bee and native pollinators in North America, honey in ancient civilizations, the bee in sacred literature, humans as pollinators, beekeeping around the world, the future of beekeeping, a survey of bees in speculative fiction...

Deadline: March 15, 2014

Fiction and nonfiction: Up to 7,500 words
Poetry: Up to six poems, no more than 64 lines each
up to six pages for a single longer poem.

Formatting: Please include name, address, telephone number and email address on all pages of document. Document should be double-spaced (except for poetry), and in a 12-pt serif font such as Times or Garamond. Please upload work as a PDF file. Cover letter should include a brief biographical note. If piece is previously published, please indicate name of publication and date in cover letter.

Timeline: Writers will be contacted on or before June 15th, 2014. Please do not query regarding submissions status before this time.

**There is a $2.00 submission fee.**

This covers the cost of using Submittable, an easy-to-use platform that helps editors and writers keep track of submitted writing. Here are a few reasons why we like it and think you will, too. You will be able to organize and view your submission, track its progress through the editing process, and receive timely notification of its status.

Winged is a not-for-profit project. Any donations exceeding the monthly cost of using Submittable will benefit the Xerces Society's pollinator conservation efforts. Thank you for supporting Winged, and protecting pollinators.
